This is an incredible modern house inserted into an old stable. There is actually a stream running through the house.

National Cathedral and more
A set of photographs I took today when I went to the Flower Mart at the National Cathedral. I have to admit that this Flower Mart does not have quite the same character as the Baltimore Flower Mart, and I didn't see a single peppermint stick. But I did get some good pictures.
This set, that displays both the grandeur architecture and the grandeur nature, includes the photographs I took at the Cathedral and on my walk home.

Old Post Office Views
Given Donald Trump's impending transformation of the Old Post Office building into a Hotel, I decided yesterday to go over there and take some photographs from the building's tower. Below is a link to a photo set with views from the tower, as well as some interior shots. Click on the Show Info link at the top of the photo set that opens to see information about the photos.

Architecture or Sculpture
A video from The Guardian about the ArcelorMittal Orbit, recently constructed in London to mark the 2012 Olympics. The 377 ft tall tower was designed by Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond. Kapoor is best know in the United States for the Bean in Chicago's Millennium Park.

Library of Congress
President's Day is one of the few occasions when photography is allowed in the Main Reading Room of the Library of Congress. So I went over to take advantage of the opportunity. Here is a set of photographs from today. All of these photographs are of the Thomas Jefferson Building, competed in 1897. There is one photograph of the Capital Building, which is taken out a window in the Jefferson building.

The Crystal Cathedral
This week the Crystal Cathedral was sold in bankruptcy to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange. The main sanctuary—designed by Philip Johnson—consists of over 10.000 panes of glass, and contains one of the worlds largest pipe organs. It is designed to withstand to an 8.0 magnitude earthquake.
Here is a video that focuses on the organ, but you can also see a good bit of the architecture it.

Nashville Concert Hall Transformed
I knew that some concert halls used to put a floor over the seats in order to hold dances, but I never heard of moving the seats under the floor like they do in this video of the Nashville Concert Hall.

A Room With a View
I got a new office at work last Friday. I now have a window that faces North across N Street. This is what I see when I look up from my computer now—the National Cathedral, undergoing earthquake damage repairs.
My apartment is somewhere behind the trees below and maybe a little to the left of the Cathedral.

Gang & Abumrad
My last post had a picture of Jeanne Gang's Aqua building in Chicago, in recognition of her MacArthur Genius Award. The MacArthur Foundation has videos of this year's winners, so here are the videos for Gang and Jad Abumrad, two of my three favorite 2011 genius winners.
On Saturday night I am going to see the third one live, and in person, so maybe I will do another post after that.

Jeanne Gang - Genius
I did a post last year when the Aqua Building, in Chicago, was named Skyscraper of the Year. Well now the architect of the building, Jeanne Gang, has been named one of this year's MacArthur Genius Winners. You can listen to her on NPR earlier today Here
Here is a photograph I took of the Aqua a year or two ago.
